Fair Isle in the Fall

Happy Monday! It is an extra happy Monday for me because it is a long weekend! Tony and I are munching on pumpkin cookies and drinking coffee and relaxing before grocery shopping and getting ready for the rest of the week.

It has been a great weekend! Saturday after some much needed sleeping in, we decided to get pumpkins! Normally every year my family and I go to the Great Pumpkin Farm in Clarence. I love it there, and it is great for families, but Tony and I wanted something a little quieter this year, and decided to check out a farm that has been on my list to visit for awhile, Awald Farms. It is South of the city and a beautiful drive. The leaves here are just starting to change, but we saw some beautiful colors as we headed south.

I cannot recommend this place enough! It was wonderful. A great selection of pumpkins, gourds, and squash, lots of mums, food and drinks, and even hayrides, a reasonably priced corn maze and activities for kids. I think it would be perfect for families with smaller children. Across the street they also have a patch with giant pumpkins! For the perfect fall day, there is a great apple orchard down the street as well, Stonehill Farms. I think that is my plan for next year. It was the perfect slightly gloomy fall day, and it made for some great photos. We grabbed a hot apple cider and took the scenic route home sipping them and enjoying the fall foliage.

A tradition that we started a few years ago was pumpkin painting! I grew up carving pumpkins, and that is definitely fun too, but when we moved into our house, I wanted to do something a little bit different. It is a ton of fun. We got our paint (make sure you get acrylic!) at Walmart, and then I needed pipe cleaners for my tiger's whiskers, and construction paper for the ears. This is a great activity to do with friends, or I think it would be great for kids too before moving up to carving, since they can't really do the whole carving part anyway. Plus, your pumpkins last longer outside because they are still intact. There are so many design ideas on Pinterest Our first year I did a fox, and it was super cute, and this year I went with a tiger.

What are some of your favorite fall traditions and activities to do in the fall?

Outfit details:
Normally, I save my Fair Isle style sweaters for the winter, but this was such a chilly day I decided it needed to make an appearance, and I love how it photographed. It is old from Old Navy, and they have great affordable options every year.

I was so excited to wear my short Tommy Hilfiger duck boots for the first time this season.

I hope everyone has a great rest of the week and day off today if  you don't have to work!
