Finding Your Personal Style

Another day, another Gal Meets Glam dress. This particular dress though means something to me, and I wanted to talk about defining my personal style over the years, because I was drawn to this dress, although in the past it is something I never would have purchased and loved.

I would definitely define my personal style as classic and preppy, with hints with girly/feminine. This style has developed for a number of reasons. I love preppy style, and being a teacher, the conservative way of dressing has adapted well to clothes I can wear to work, but also dress down for the weekend or trips. I have always been drawn to New England or coastal style, so that has also contributed. I would say in the past couple of years though, I have really also embraced and been drawn to feminine pieces, particularly dresses.

Anyone who knew me in high school would probably not recognize my style now, it has evolved a lot. I was such a tom boy in middle and high school, I think because I was an avid horseback rider and I thought you had to dress that way. When I went to college, and started to have more money to spend on my wardrobe, I was really drawn towards preppy styles, as well as the fact that being on the riding team we "dressed up" for riding (breeches and polo shirts/sweaters). I also needed outfits for teaching internships, and I started reading blogs for outfit inspirations. Julia from Gal Meets Glam (being rebranded and I can't wait to see what she does with it!) is one I have read the longest, and I love her dreamy photography and feminine outfits. Her line has helped me to embrace that style myself, and the reason I love the dresses so much is they are so beautiful and well made, but also comfortable.

In May, I wrote about my sale purchase of the Alisa dress, which I absolutely love, but I was also drawn to this dress, the Isabele, that came out this past spring. The blue flowers reminded me of my favorite, Hydrangeas, and I loved the square neck and slightly puffed sleeves. When I saw they still had it in my size, I decided to get it, and I love it so much! It is my most casual GMG dress, and I know I will wear it a ton this summer. Last weekend, Tony and I went to one of our favorite spots and captured these dreamy images in the sunshine. I love casually wearing dresses, and don't plan to stop any time soon!

My dress is still available here.

I can't wait to share more summer looks, and I encourage everyone to embrace their personal style this summer, and maybe try something new!
